Reverend Jyoti: From My Heart

I’ve spent some time this morning deadheading.  You know, cutting off the spent blossoms from the flowering plants.  It makes the plants look so much better, and gives them more room for new growth.  Deadheading is good for our lives, too – letting go of what’s no longer alive and blooming.  Are there things in your life that were once beautiful and added color and fragrance and joy, but are no longer serving you?  Old relationships? Old habits that no longer bring vitality?  Letting go of what’s no longer working makes room for newness to blossom, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm...

I am open and receptive to the miracles and blessings
that are here for me now and always.

Inspirational Movie Night

'The Prize Winner
of Defiance, Ohio'

Wednesday, July 11
6:30 pm

Affinity Theater
860 Baseline Road

The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio, starring Julianne Moore, Woody Harrrelson, Laura Dern is based on the true story of housewife Evelyn Ryan, who helped support her husband Kelly and their 10 children by winning jingle-writing contests. The book, which was written in 2001 by Terry Ryan, one of this amazing woman’s daughters became the movie in 2005. A memoir of her mother’s life as a housewife in the 1950s, her creative writing desire but with not a minute to spare persisting in her busy day to day world, finding female support in an unlikely place, overcoming her husband’s alcoholism, the meaning of ‘just in the nick of time’ and raising 10 grateful children to become pretty cool, successful adults.
According to Roger Ebert the movie "avoids obvious sentiment and predictable emotion and shows this woman somehow holding it together year after year, entering goofy contests that for her family mean life and death."

Location: The theatre at Affinity Living Community: 860 Baseline Rd - across from King Soopers on Route 7 at Highway 287.  Call Pat Brazee at 303-880-9896 if the door is locked.

Third Thursday Spiritual Forum

'Spiritual Growth in Baha’i'

Thursday, July 19
7:00 - 8:30 pm

The Baha’i Faith was founded by Baha’u’llah in 1863 and has ~7 million members. Following a brief introduction to the history and organization of the Baha’i Faith, we will explore its key teachings regarding the spiritual growth of the individual. How do Baha’is view prayer, meditation, and regular reading of Sacred Scriptures? What about the practice of fasting? Does being of service to others and performing work in the spirit of service promote spiritual growth?  We will also explore the interplay of individual spiritual growth and active participation in the local and global community.
Presenter Biography
Marty McCloskey has been a member of the Baha’i Faith for over 35 years. He has served in a variety of administrative capacities for his local Baha’i community and is currently the Chairman of the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Louisville. In 1995 Marty and his family went on a Baha’i pilgrimage to Haifa, Israel. In his professional life, Marty is a software engineer for Cisco.

A Precious Child – Fill a Backpack

A Precious Child is devoted to making a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged and displaced children and families in Colorado by improving their quality of life. Over 180,000 children are living in poverty according to the Colorado Kids Count Report. Children living in poverty lack the basic essentials critical to academic achievement. Ensuring that children have the necessary supplies to participate in school can reduce truancy, promote learning and build positive self-esteem. The goal for 2018 is to provide more than 14,000 backpacks filled with supplies to children in need.

Fill a Backpack needs the following items:
