Reverend Jyoti: From My Heart

Happy June!  And Happy Fathers’ Day!  What a vital role fathers play.  I love talking with some of the dads in our congregation and hearing about how they connected, and continue to connect, with their sons and daughters.  Thanks to all who have served in the role of father, dad, grandpa, etc.  You make the world a better place!
June is Gay Pride month and makes me so glad that our teaching and our organization, Centers for Spiritual Living, is open and welcoming to all people, regardless of sexual orientation, religion, gender, and all other categories.  We are One People – all of us on the planet...

Right here and right now, I say YES to living as the magnificent and unique expression of the Divine that I came here to be.

Inspirational Movie Night

'Smoke Signals'

Wednesday, June 13
6:30 pm

Affinity Theater
860 Baseline Road
(across the street from King Soopers)

Smoke Signals gives us storytelling, music, a rough father-son relationship, another with no father at all, an unusual road trip, John Wayne’s teeth and reconciliation and forgiveness. Smoke Signals is a Canadian-American independent film released in 1998, from a screenplay by Sherman Alexie, based on the short story "This is What it Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona" from his book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven (1993). For more information, click here.
Peter Stack of the San Francisco Chronicle gave the film a rave review, calling it, "unpretentious, funny and soulful [...] Well-acted, well-written, with spare, beautiful imagery." Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times described Smoke Signals as "a warm film of friendship and reconciliation, and whenever it refers to historic injustices or contemporary issues in Native American culture, it does so with wry, glancing humor. Smoke Signals is indeed poignant, but above all it's pretty funny."

Come and enjoy popcorn and inspiration.

Location: The theatre at Affinity Living Community: 860 Baseline Rd - across from King Soopers on Route 7 at Highway 287.  Call Pat Brazee at 303-880-9896 if the door is locked.

June Outreach

Boulder Bridge House

Ready to Work Program:

 Creating a Culture of Opportunity
for Homeless and Low Income Adults

The Bridge House's Ready to Work program is a year-long transition program for formerly homeless men and women where they receive housing, employment, intensive case management, employment classes, computer lab, laundry, showers, meals, really everything they need. There are 44 beds and about 50 people a year graduate to their own full-time job and apartment! It’s been very successful and exciting to see trainees turn their lives around. They must stay sober during the program and there is LOTS of support to help them achieve their goals.
When they graduate Bridge House offers them tangible support as they move in to their new apartment so that they don’t have to spend all of their savings on basic need supplies. It would be such a blessing to have support from the community in purchasing these items for them! Below is a list of what we’d ideally like to present each Trainee when they move into their new housing:
1.       Bath towel sets
2.       Kitchen towel sets including oven mitts and pot holders
3.       Bathroom rugs
4.       Shower curtains
5.       Dishes
6.       Pots and pans
7.       Silverware
8.       Glassware
9.       Sheets
10.     Blankets

Note: If you'd prefer to donate money and have someone else shop, please use an offering envelope clearly marked OUTREACH FOR BRIDGE HOUSE.

For more information at their web site, click here.

Thank You for Your Donations

The April Outreach was for the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Church members donated needed supplies that the Greenwood Center had requested. The items offset consumables expenditures so that precious funds can be used for other costs. The Center personnel were delighted!
