URGENT! Pack City Hall against the Repeal of the Amazon Tax!
TOMORROW, Tuesday, June 12, 10:30AM
Seattle City Hall (600 Fourth Ave)
Sisters and Brothers,
Less than a month ago, our movement won a tax on the biggest 3% of Seattle’s businesses - such as Amazon and Starbucks - to build thousands of units of social (publicly owned and permanently affordable) housing! This was a hard-fought victory, with hundreds of ordinary people building a courageous movement that stood up to the many months of pushback from corporate politicians and the extortionary bullying by Amazon.
Tomorrow, in a blatant sellout, the City Council will be voting to repeal the Amazon Tax! This is a massive capitulation by the majority of the City Council to the pressure from billionaires, and an unsurprising betrayal by corporate Mayor Jenny Durkan.
We can’t let this happen without a fight! We knew this fight wasn’t going to be easy - going up against the richest man in the world, some of the most powerful corporations, and a City Hall filled with elected officials beholden to big business.
So let’s pack City Council Chambers tomorrow. The City Council meets at noon, but come early, at 10:30am, to get on the list for public comment and to let the movement’s voice be heard!
