INDEPENDENT ADVOCACY NQ OPENS NEW PREMISES TO BETTER SUPPORT NORTH QUEENSLANDERS LIVING WITH DISABILITY

14 December 2022

Independent Advocacy NQ (IANQ) has today officially opened its new premises, to better support the delivery of services to people with disability.

The new facilities will allow more face-to-face service delivery to clients in a private and more easily accessible location.

As you may know, IANQ’s previous location had significant access issues, with little off-street parking. The new premises offer ample off-street parking, front and rear access ramps and newly installed accessible toilets that also have shower facilities.

As a Disability Advocacy organisation, we believe all people have a right to be treated with respect and dignity and be valued as individuals and our new premises supports us in achieving that. IANQ is proud to provide solutions to people with disability that support positive and equitable changes for better quality of life and these new facilities better support us in making that a reality for our clients.

Over recent times, IANQ staff numbers have also grown from two to eight and the new premises better cater to those increased staffing numbers. Excitingly, the new premises will also allow IANQ to host easily accessible self-advocacy and educational workshops, without the need to hire external facilities. IANQ will also look to open its new premises for hire by community groups and not-for-profit organisations.

We are proud that the new premises is also home to a 20-metre custom privacy screen Indigenous artwork, created by proud Pitta Pitta man and Queensland Signage Solutions owner Wal Robinson.

We hope the artwork will act as a warm welcome to both our Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients.

An Open Day will be held at the new premises tomorrow between 10:30am and 2:30pm. The address is Suite 1/1-3 Barlow St, South Townsville- we hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Deborah Wilson
