We continue to follow national guidance and our own policies (available on the website) in relation to COVID-19 and wish to thank the whole of Thomas's community for the support shown during this difficult time.

Lots of progress has been made with our heating and boiler project. New radiators are being installed and look fantastic.

Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform including school shoes and P.E. kits. Moving forward, pupils can continue to wear P.E. kits to school on days that they are doing P.E. Please be advised that pupils' coats and bags should be those listed on the uniform policy.

As always, if you or a close contact shows symptoms of COVID or tests positive, please let us know and ensure you complete the whole isolation period.

Goodbye to Lyn Todd

After 33 years at our school, Lyn has made the difficult decision to retire at the end of this half-term. Please read the message below from Lyn:
"I have been a part of what is now Thomas's Academy for over 33 years.  The building I have worked in for that time has been known as three different schools and run by seven different head teachers in my time.
I started off as a volunteer, reading with children and supporting on school trips, before becoming a meal supervisor at lunch times and helping children on a one-to-one basis. The majority of my time though has been spent as a teaching assistant including for Miss Kelly and Mrs James.
I have so many lovely memories including Christmases, sports days and of staff and children including dress up days and the time I won the World Book Day dressing competition for staff!
I have seen generations of families come through the school, with the children I once taught, now the parents I see at drop-off and pick-ups, and other past students who, til this day, still come back to say hello.
I can honestly say that all the children, the staff and the parents (past and present) and of course Thomas's itself, will always hold a special pace in my heart."

From all of the staff at Thomas's, we want to wish Lyn a fantastic retirement.  We thank her for all she has done for our school and will miss her so much.

Healthy Eating and Wellbeing

Year 4 have begun a 6 week programme with Chelsea FC focussed on Healthy Eating and Wellbeing.  Their first session on Goal Setting and Healthy Lifestyles was lots of fun.

Instrumental Lessons

Many children have signed up for piano and guitar lessons this term.  Piano lessons are full however there are a few guitar spaces left.  Please contact the school if you are interested on: office@academy.thomas-s.co.uk

Family Gardening Days

Our school garden has had a real spruce up, led by our fantastic gardener Pascale.  The children in Years 1 - 6 have enjoyed planting sunflowers, rocket, rainbow chard, carrots, leeks, garlic and spinach as well as learning how to weed and water our plants correctly. During the Easter holidays, families found their green fingers too and enjoyed a beautiful morning of gardening for our first Family Garden Day.  The next of these special family days will be organised for the half term holiday.  Pascale, alongside Nature & Bliss, will also be running a Creativity Art workshop in the garden on Saturday 22nd May.  If you are interested in joining her for this experience, you can find more details on the website: naturebls.co.uk
We are so excited to continue to watch this space grow and flourish into a peaceful green oasis that we can share with families and the local community.

Diversity in Science

The week beginning 10th May will mark the start of Diversity in Science Week for all at Thomas's Academy.  This week will see Years 1-6 focussing on different famous female scientists such as Dr Willie Hobbs Moore and Dr Melanie Windridge.  Children will have the opportunity to consider how the scientists' work has impacted our world.
In addition, there will be a science fair home learning challenge for you and your children to take part in at home judged by Mr Kilgannon.  Look our for more information on this via Seesaw!

DOCTOR ESPRESSO

Thank you to all the children who entered this competition last term.  All the designs were amazing. See below for the winners:
Anis (Year 4) - this drawing will be included on the DOCTOR ESPRESSO T shirt.
Olivia (Year 3) - the employees found the design cheerful.
Albert (Reception) - customers were amazed by the yellow monster.

CAN Service

Hammersmith and Fulham CAN is the volunteer community aid network launched to support residents in need during the coronavirus pandemic.  Working with the voluntary and charity sector, and alongside the ward and street-level mutual aid groups, CAN offers support to residents who don't have friends or family close by to help them out.  To receive help or if you are worried about a friend, neighbour or relative, call  0800 145 6095, 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

Mental Health

Hello, my name is Ellen and I'm an Education Mental Health Practitioner based at Thomas's Academy.  My role is to help children understand their feelings and emotions through workshops and groups.  I also work with staff and parents/carers through workshops, coffee morning and 1:1 interventions.
We also have a telephone drop-in service for parents to talk about children's wellbeing.  This can include discussing challenging behaviour or any unpleasant thoughts or feelings they are experiencing.  In these drop-in calls we can support you to find the help that you need - this might involve a 1:1 intervention with us, or useful signposts to other services.  If you would like to book a 20-minute drop-in session, please follow the steps below:
1. Email dutyyouthservices@hfmind.org.uk
2. In the subject write 'Thomas's Academy drop-in service expression of interest'
3. Include your name and phone number
4. Select your preferred time - 3pm, 3.20pm, 3.40pm, 4pm or 4.20pm
Another way children can get support is online through Ollee - a digital friend for children aged 8-11, created by Parent Zone and funded by BBC Children in Need's A Million & Me initiative, which aims to make a difference to children's emotional wellbeing.
It is designed to help children reflect on how they feel and to process their experiences with the support and help of their parents and carers - and it does this by offering them advice about a range of subjects. Find out more at:
https://parentzone.org.uk/Ollee

Thank-you

Thomas's community has once again proved its generosity and support by rallying  to the aid of a school family who lost everything to a fire.  The family would like to pass on their sincere thanks for your generous donations and kind words of support which has meant a lot to them at this difficult time.
