School remembers "larger than life" former student who died after road collision

West Hatch High School has paid tribute to a "larger than life" former student who died following a collision with two vehicles in Buckhurst Hill.

Chalize Vitalis-Lovell, 19, died at the scene of the collision involving a car and a van in Buckhurst Way on the evening of Tuesday, October 12.

The school said governors, staff and students are mourning the loss of Chalize who was "larger than life and remembered fondly by the West Hatch community, having left the school in 2018".

Headteacher Daniel Leonard said: “I knew Chalize very well and we are all devastated to hear this tragic news. Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad and difficult time.

"It truly is a tragedy that Chalize will not be able to fulfil her dreams. The school will be remembering Chalize in our memorial garden and our flag will be flying at half mast tomorrow (Friday) in memory of her and as a tribute to her life.

"We will also be observing a minute's silence to remember her."

Chalize, from Buckhurst Hill, has been remembered by her mother as “a much loved passionate, strong, kind caring young lady with her whole life ahead of her.

“She was very much a family person and would stand up for what she believes in.

“She was fantastic at her job in child care and was looking forward to becoming a mum herself one day.

“Her family and friends are extremely heartbroken at this time and trying to come to terms with the fact that we will never see her again.

“She was the best daughter a mum could ever wish for".

The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man from Harlow, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He has since been released under investigation while police continue their enquiries.

Officers need anyone who saw what happened or has any CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage to contact them.

Anyone with any information can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am and 11pm (quote incident 1121 of October 12).

Information can also be given by ringing 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
