Remembering Bob Dole
Rest In Peace
December 5 2021
As most of you know, yesterday, December 5th, the nation lost a great American, Senator and WWII Veteran, Bob Dole.
Bob Dole was an Army OCS Graduate, long-time senator, former Republican presidential nominee, and World War II hero, who died yesterday (Sunday) at the age of 98.
Former Senator Dole visited the OCS Battalion and National Infantry Museum on April 20-21, 2017. Dole, who graduated from OCS at Fort Benning on November 18, 1944, spoke to the four distinguished graduates from class 003-17. He told them the leadership he learned in OCS propelled him into politics and made him a better person.
During his visit to the OCS Battalion Dole also received a tour of the newly constructed Memorial Walk by the OCS Battalion headquarters. Senator Dole’s name is inscribed in the Memorial Walk as a legendary alumnus and member of the 1965 OCS Hall of Fame induction class. After being commissioned as an infantry officer in WWII he served with the 10th Mountain Division and was wounded twice. The 2017 visit was his first visit to Fort Benning since he was commissioned in 1944.
Rest in Peace Good and Faithful Servant!
