July 2022

From William Repicci, President & CEO

Over the course of the past few years, there have been so many successes in the fight for lymphatic diseases. Case in point: when I joined LE&RN, there was one major research conference focused on lymphatics. Fast forward, after just returning from speaking at the Keck School of Medicine at USC Lymphedema & Related Disorders Symposium, the next few months offer our community the following conferences:

  • National Institutes of Health’s Yet to Be Charted: Lymphatic System in Health and Disease (09/19-20/2022)

  • LE&RN’s Virtual Summit The Clinician-Patient Interface in State-of-the-Art Diagnosis & Management (09/30/2022)

  • Boston Lymphatic Symposium (10/01/2022)

  • American Venous & Lymphatic Society Congress (10/13-16/2022)

  • The Lipedema Project’s Lipedema & Lymphedema Heart to Heart (10/21-23/2022)

  • Gordon Research Conference in Lymphatics (10/30-11/05/2022)

In addition to LE&RN’s involvement and participation in all the above, I’m honored to be moderating and speaking at lymphatic and lymphedema sessions at the United International Phlebology Conference and the Turkish Lymphedema Congress, both in Istanbul in September.
Interest in lymphatics has never been greater. We look for this momentum to lead us to our goal of new treatments and cures. This will take research funding, which is why I so look forward to Dr. Stanley Rockson’s (Stanford University and LE&RN co-founder) upcoming lymphedema drug clinical trials sponsored by Celltaxis, Inc. You will be hearing more about this during the month of August as the study gets under way. I think about the seismic change that would occur if even one drug is proven effective in treating lymphedema (LE). If this is possible, then the mandate to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to increase research funding becomes even stronger. Might big pharma, which has ignored LE to date because of lack of basic research to guide their hand, suddenly see the possibilities before them? You have helped us set the foundation from which the treatments of tomorrow will grow. Take pride in your role in this journey as we look for our next set of goals to be realized.

With great pleasure, I present our latest issue of Lymphedema & Lymphatic Disease Matters.

2022 LE&RN Centers of Excellence Lymphatic Summit

$25 Early Bird Special thru August 31st; $35 beginning September 1st

Lymphatic Disease: The Clinician/Patient Interface in State-if-the-Art Diagnosis and Management will be presented online in its entirety on Friday, September 30, 2022.

The diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to lymphatic diseases are rapidly evolving and becoming increasingly sophisticated. This long-awaited evolution has created an imperative for health care professionals to embrace these skills and the research support for their appropriate utilization. In parallel, it is important that health care professionals comprehend the profound impact of lymphatic disease and its treatment upon function and quality-of-life. To this end, this year's Summit will highlight state-of-the-art clinical management techniques and the patient user interface with both disease and its management. Evolving concepts and unanswered questions will be emphasized.

The Centers of Excellence Summit is hosted by Stanford University School of Medicine and LE&RN. It was organized and will be chaired by Stanley G. Rockson, M.D., the Allan and Tina Neill Professor of Lymphatic Research and Medicine at Stanford University.

The Summit is considered appropriate for both health care professionals and patients and their families. Medical professionals can receive 5.25 Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) credits by attending. Replays will be available after the Summit until 11/01/22.

If you are a researcher or a medical school student, please email to apply for a complimentary ticket.
