Shatabisha means “one hundred physicians,” or “one hundred medicines.” This area of the sky is associated with the search for true healing — not just physical, mental and emotional but spiritual — the healing of the human condition.

There are multiple implications here. One is that the condition is so complex that it requires the attention of one hundred doctors and the power of one hundred medicines.

The subsequent or simultaneous meaning is that one who perseveres through the healing process will inevitably develop the capacity to heal others by wielding the power of these hundred medicines.

From a yogic perspective, the root cause of all illness is the habitual forgetting of one’s true identity as the immortal Atman. Sure, Shatabisha is brilliant at bandaging mundane wounds, but the true mission of these hundred physicians is nothing less than complete metaphysical healing.

The energetic signature of this asterism is of electricity collecting in a storm cloud. There is energy in the air, a subtle sense of excitement getting steadily stronger. Lightning strikes in the next nakshatra, but for now the potency just builds, gathering strength and potential power.

This full moon is prime time to connect with your higher mind and allow power to concentrate there. Let eccentric potentials buzz and simmer on the outermost surface of your awareness.

This is an auspicious moment for the application of remedial measures. What medicine do you need right now? Which parts of your bio-psycho-social complex would benefit from some loving medical attention right now?

  • New Blog: “Approaching the Grand Conjunction”
Jupiter and Saturn are very visible in the night sky right now. The past several days, the Moon has been nearby, forming a majestic triumvirate of luminaries.

I wrote about the push-and-pull dynamic between Jupiter and Saturn as we approach the moment in December when they will cross paths — an astronomical event that occurs once every twenty years.

Here is a snippet summarizing the major theme:

“We are together in labor. We need to hold each other’s hands and squeeze tight as the contractions ripple through our collective body — contractions whose increasing intensity only indicates the closeness of a new life.”

This month, I would like to introduce you to two crews of humans contributing to the world in ways I perceive to be of supreme value — Conspirituality and Moon Bath.

One of the most relevant cultural conversations happening, and specifically grounded in the holistic wellness space, Conspirituality is a podcast hosted and produced by Derek Beres, Matthew Remski and Julian Walker.

The word “conspirituality” is a portmanteau of conspiracy and spirituality. There is a complex intersection of these narratives occurring on a global scale right now.

The Conspirituality podcast provides an important reference point within the chaotic competition to create reality. The creators describe their positionality and purpose as follows:

  • As the alt-right and New Age horseshoe toward each other in a blur of disinformation, clear discourse and good intentions get smothered. Charismatic influencers exploit their followers by co-opting conspiracy theories on a spectrum of intensity ranging from vaccines to child trafficking. In the process, spiritual beliefs that have nurtured creativity and meaning are transforming into memes of a quickly-globalizing paranoia.
  • Conspirituality Podcast attempts to bring understanding to this landscape. A journalist, a cult researcher, and a philosophical skeptic discuss the stories, cognitive dissonances, and cultic dynamics tearing through the yoga, wellness, and new spirituality worlds. Mainstream outlets have noticed the problem. We crowd-source, research, analyze, and dream answers to it.

While I definitely do not agree with everything they say, I find their approach to be of excellent benefit to my own meaning-making process.

In my observation, the show represents the rational/scientific end of the spectrum. Personally, while keeping myself firmly grounded in consensus reality, I tend to allow a little more room for magic in my worldview than is presented in the podcast. There are some brow-furrowing moments when the hosts drift into a tone of ridicule when discussing metaphysical concepts in which I invest a solid measure of validity.

Nonetheless, this ongoing discussion is of vital importance for anyone interested in the intersection of spirituality and politics and how some very strange influences are shifting our shared socio-cultural landscape.

Please enjoy! And let me know what you think.

First, some backstory. As a student at Alandi Āyurveda Gurukula, one is sure to learn about the ultimate Pitta-soothing remedy known as Moon bathing.

The inverse of Sun bathing, a Moon bath involves wearing all-white clothes and a pearl necklace, drinking milk from a silver cup, reciting poetry, singing prayers and generally luxuriating under the full moon for several hours, soaking in her cooling light.

This beautiful, playful ritual is one of my favorite activities to recommend. Especially now, at the height of summer, with all the fire signs activated, I encourage each of you to experiment with your own way of Moon bathing tonight!
There is, however, an entirely complementary approach to Moon bathing that has been created by my Alandi classmate Sierra Brashear and her all-star co-founder Dakota Hills.

They have created a company called Moon Bath for the purpose of inspiring humans to slow down and nourish themselves in alignment with lunar cycles. What I really want to share is that these beautiful geniuses have just completed work on their first book. The art and design is stunning, and the content is of the utmost value to counteract the chaos currently pervading the planet.
  • Moon Bath is a luxurious guide that invites readers to immerse themselves in the healing powers of nature.
  • Brimming with Āyurvedic wisdom and plant-based medicine, Moon Bath is a lovely companion for modern mystics, wellness enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to wash away the stresses of daily life.
  • This visually-driven book — which includes affirmations, meditations and self-care practices as well as journal prompts to promote reflection and self-discovery — is perfect for those who love and are interested in Āyurveda, meditation, and yoga. And it makes a great gift!
