An incredible evening with Terry O'Reilly, host of CBC's Under the Influence and THE guru of advertising. We learned so much from his engaging talk, especially about the art of persuasion! He truly enlightened Brain Power students, their families, and guests -- all gained a wealth of knowledge about creativity, speech-writing, marketing, rhetoric, and, perhaps most of all, being passionate. Thank you, Terry O'Reilly!
April’s book club meeting: students were given a taste of Dr. Karine Rashkovsky's fascinating Public Speaking course, as they discussed and analyzed Dale Carnegie's classic novel, How To Win Friends & Influence People.
Another awesome field trip: Brain Power's Public Speaking students meet with former PM Pierre Elliott Trudeau's (yup, Justin's dad!) friend Brooke Johnson- famous Canadian actress- at the Brampton Rose Theatre. It was a fascinating evening of history, politics, intrigue, and discussions on performance and presentation skills.
Students working together to complete the exciting Escape Games Challenge!
Brain Power partnered with to bring these original and challenging puzzle-games to Brain Power.
Professional comedian and talented speaker Shawn Hogan inspiring Brain Power's public speaking students on how to find their voice and create flow in their speeches and presentations. Many laughs and useful tips were shared.
Steve Tulman - Brain Power alumni and guru in his field; teaching at Harvard University, Schulich School of Business, and other prestigious business schools, Steve also consults big celebrities on monetizing their social media and has been involved in multiple successful businesses and exits.
Here's a pic of Steve from last week: generously sharing tips and advice with our students about being a successful public speaker, negotiator, and entrepreneur. He is such an inspiration!

Go Steve! Way to make Brain Power proud

Karine's Language Arts class discussing Plato's Cave and delving into philosophical inquiry (while dressing up for the occasion, too)!
Throwback to our recent Language Arts class. Our students came up with 132 words out of the sentence: April showers bring May flowers.

Featured Alumni of the Month- Taras Klitovchenko

Taras tells us: "I am proud to be a Brain Power Alumni who started out with Reuven from the very inception of the organization. Back then, Brain Power was still very much in its infancy, and was on its way to developing into the multidisciplinary educational center that it is today. I believe that it was originally named “Brain Power,” because there was always a large focus on problem solving, critical thinking, and understanding fundamental concepts, which is in contrast to the memorize-regurgitate model that is often too prevalent in many education systems today. I remember being challenged to perform at a higher level than was being taught in school, and more importantly to compete with myself and to strive to be the best that I can be. The work ethic that I developed at a young age with Reuven and Karine became an asset to me in my future educational pursuits. Upon graduating high school, I knew that I enjoyed two things: healthcare and working with my hands. I ultimately decided that dentistry would be the best fit for my interests and abilities. After completing a health science degree at York University, I was accepted into 3 dental schools in Canada: two in Ontario, and one in Montreal, Quebec. I ultimately decided that I would obtain the best training at McGill University in Montreal, where I completed my degree last spring. As I continue to expand my career in dentistry in Toronto, the fundamental skills and work ethic that I first developed at Brain Power continues to be a valuable asset."

Taras, we are so proud of you! Kudos to your success!

Star Student- Veronika Vermont Urbanovich

Veronica - age 16 (Grade 11) - Brain Power Student

Veronica's got great news: She has been chosen to particIpate in a highly coveted co-op initiative at Dishon Limited, which is a company that manufactures aerospace parts. Her placement is in the engineering department, within the Manufacturing sector. She got involved with this project through SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) where co-op is necessary - and Veronica tells us Brain Power helped her land this position!

We asked Veronica:
How has Brain Power helped you get to where you are now? What do you love about your work at Dishon Ltd.? and Where do you see yourself in a few years' time?

She answered:
A: "Brain Power helped me make a good impression on my future supervisor during the interview, look smart and be smart, and to face my fear of talking to people. In school, Brain Power has helped me raise my grades and make classes really easy. In terms of what I love about my placement at Dishon, I love getting to work with the engineers and make models in SolidWorks (a professional 3D modelling program). In a few years from now, I see myself using this experience to help me with university projects and referring to it when finding a job in the industry."

Go Veronica! We are proud of you and happy to be part of your success!
