ARIES Bulletin | Issue #3

3rd ARIES Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal (20-24 April 2020)

The 3rd ARIES Annual Meeting will be organised by the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon (Portugal) in the Auditorium of the IST Congress Center from 20 to 24 April 2020.

The first day (20 April) will be, as usual, devoted to parallel sessions. The plenary sessions, where all the ARIES activities are presented, will take place from Tuesday (21 April) to Thursday (23 April). A visit will probably be organised after the plenary sessions on Thursday afternoon.

The Annual Meeting is the most important event in the course of ARIES, so please schedule the date in your agendas as soon as possible.

Call for an H2020 Accelerator Innovation Pilot Project

In November 2019, the European Commission will open the Horizon 2020 call INFRAINNOV-04-2020 for Innovation Pilot projects, directed at Research Infrastructure networks. The goal would be to kick-start the implementation of common strategies and roadmaps to develop technologies that can meet the increasingly challenging demands of accelerator users.

Due to the high level of integration reached by our particle accelerator community and the quality of our previous initiatives, the Commission has selected “innovation in accelerator technologies” as one of the call's priority domains. Our community will thus be invited to submit a proposal for a collaborative project by 17 March 2020. The project will involve an overall EC contribution of € 10 Million, for a duration of 4 years, starting in May 2021.

As for previous proposals, the submission will be coordinated by TIARA (Test Infrastructure and Accelerator Research Area) and supported by ARIES. TIARA and ARIES have thus launched a call for proposals for collaborative actions to be included in the final work plan. The proposals should be prepared following precise guidelines and sent before 31 August 2019.

Please access Accelerator Innovation Pilot Project Preparation for details and templates.

An Evaluation Committee nominated by the TIARA Council will analyse the proposals and select those that will be part of the final project to be submitted to the European Commission.

Editorial Series on Accelerator Science Technology

The Editorial Series on Accelerating Science welcomes submissions from ARIES researchers to be published in the format of a monograph.

Launched in 2008 as a joint initiative of the CARE project and its successor EuCARD, publications include Master's and PhD thesis, reviews and other works on the developments in accelerator science.
Copies from the Series up to Vol.18 volumes can be ordered here, free of charge. From Vol. 18 onwards, copies can be ordered here. If you would like to contribute, please contact us.

To acknowledge EC support in your publications...

Please do not forget to include the EC acknowledgement in all your publications (journal articles, conference papers, presentations, internal notes, etc.) related to ARIES and to upload a copy of your publication on Zenodo.

A tutorial on how to upload a publication has been made available at:
Be aware that there have been cases of publications being refused by the Commission because they indicate more than one EU project as funding source – which is part of a recent action against double funding.

To avoid problems, you are advised to choose only one EU project as main funding source of your work, to be acknowledged with the standard mention:
