Dear families,

The last few days have been a whirlwind of information gathering decision-making, and operational planning that we haven’t had to do before. We thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work together to identify the best ways to support our students and families. The decision to close our school was difficult, but we believe it's the right decision in order to keep you, our students, and our staff as healthy as possible. 

We will continue to do all we can to keep you informed of our academic and operational plans during this uncertain time. We have created a coronavirus (COVID-19) resource page on the DC Bilingual website where you can access home-school communications, distance learning support, and other resources to keep up to date on the virus in the DC area. In the meantime, in this email, we share with you updates to our school year calendar and food distribution plan, and resources your child needs to continue learning for the next two weeks. 

Calendar Updates

In response to coronavirus (COVID-19), DCB changed the school year 2019-20 calendar. DC Bilingual will be closed for students from March 16 to March 31. Spring break for students and teaching staff will be Tuesday, March 17 to Monday, March 23. Please follow DC guidelines about staying home and practice “social distancing.” DC Bilingual will no longer hold spring break in April. 

From March 24 to March 31, students will participate in distance learning.

Distance Learning

On Monday, March 16, please look for an email from your child’s teacher or an alert via Class Dojo. Teachers will make home learning packets available online via our school’s website here. Note that Comcast will offer its Internet Essentials for free for the next two months.  Please use this link to learn more. Additionally, DC Bilingual has developed a support system for families during closure and will print and mail learning packets as needed. If you know that you will not be able to access learning packets online, please email info@dcbilingual.org to indicate your need and best mailing address for sending learning packets. 

Student support with distance learning

DC Bilingual teaching teams will hold virtual “office hours” during the distance learning period (March 24-31) on the following schedule: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 - 11:00am.  Students and families can call in to receive support with distance learning, ask questions, and check in with their teachers and classmates. If you need any support calling or logging in, please reach out to info@dcbilingual.org. Teachers have included dial-in instructions for virtual “office hours” in the distance learning packets.  

Food Support 

DC Bilingual Food and Wellness Department Lola Bloom and Chris Roberson distributed food to families today, March 16 and will do so again on Tuesday, March 17 only. Chris and Lola will distribute food from 10:00am-1:00pm outside the Bistro, side door next to the elevator. DC Bilingual will no longer distribute food after Tuesday, March 17. If you need food support, please see DCPS free meal distribution list.
