Traditional shallots

2018 harvest
traditional-shallots
After a 2017/2018 season which was disastrous for producers (at best prices covered a mere ¼ of production costs), the area devoted to this crop has understandably been reduced this year.

Furthermore, the atypical weather conditions that have hit Brittany this year means shallot yields are, on average, down. The situation varies greatly from one area to another and it is still too early to forecast the overall volume.

With this year’s good quality, grade-outs are low and will limit the reduced volume a little.

Volumes and quality are the watchwords for this season. While some growers report a slight decrease in yields due to late planting, this has been offset by an increase in the planted area.
