On May 8, 2018, New Schools for Chicago, through our Kids First Chicago team hosted an On the Table discussion with Teamwork Englewood

Launched by the Chicago Community Trust (CCT) in 2014, On the Table is a day when community members from across Chicagoland come together to discuss the issues facing our region and how we can work together to enact positive change.

More than 60 individuals, including parents, grandparents, educators, community and city leaders, took part in our lunchtime conversation to share ideas and explore ways to improve education in the region. Conversations ranged from how to understand a school's performance, how to advocate for more quality programming and wrap-around supports, to how to engage parents more in their children’s schools.

We were most inspired to hear participants speak not just about needs but also the amazing assets within their community that can be leveraged to improve education for all kids.

A special thanks to Teamwork Englewood for co-hosting this program and to everyone who took time out of their busy days to action plan with us. We invite you to explore the video feedback and reactions captured from our Englewood Community members below.
