Staff Council Position Statement

Established November 8, 2018

Compelled by the mission of John Carroll University, guided by our
founding documents, and inspired by the spirit of cura personalis, Staff Council strongly affirms our commitment to uphold the dignity of all members
of the University community.

We acknowledge our colleagues with marginalized identities who experience continued pain and hurt on and off-campus as a result of heterosexism, racism, religious intolerance, sexism, xenophobia, and other forms of oppression. Further, we recognize the many ways our colleagues work tirelessly to support each other,
our students, and our community every day.

We believe, as one of the largest constituencies on the University campus, the staff is a highly diverse group of professionals whose contributions are critical to the quality, integrity, credibility, and continued growth of the University.

We invite our colleagues to utilize Staff Council and Employee Resource Groups
to seek support and affirmation.

We welcome thoughts from our colleagues on ways Staff Council can continue
to strengthen our support and advocacy efforts.

As Staff Council, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus community aligned with the University’s mission, vision, and core values.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Staff Community Service Award! See below for how you can nominate someone today!

The John Carroll University Staff Community Service Award is to recognize individuals for outstanding service to the greater Cleveland community in representing a “faith that does justice.”

Nominees should be John Carroll employees who have made a consistently positive impact on the community through voluntary service and have a demonstrated commitment to the community, to social justice, and to the values of Jesuit education. The nominee must be a current, full-time employee who has been with the University for at least 2 years. Members of the faculty are not eligible for this award; a separate award, the Curtis W. Miles Faculty Award for Community Service is available.

The award will be given annually to one staff member.  Recipients will receive a $1,000 award stipend and acknowledgement on the CSSA website.

"Recognition and respect of all members of the John Carroll University community are necessary and appropriate for the University to live up to its mission, vision, and core values. As one of the largest constituencies on the University campus (second only to students), the staff represents a highly diverse group of professionals whose contributions are critical to the quality, integrity, credibility and continued growth of the University. An informed, active, and engaged community, with the ability to participate and share its opinions and interests concerning the conduct of institutional affairs and life in the workplace, is critical to the mission of the University." -- Staff Council Constitution
