Below you will find Staff Council's March newsletter.

But first, Staff Council would like to sincerely thank Dennis Hareza & Ed Peck for helping us open up Wednesday's Fish Fry to more of our colleagues. It is truly appreciated. We hope that all who attended enjoyed the food and the opportunity to spend some time with co-workers across campus.

 If you choose to be identified, Staff Council will do its best to provide you with a direct response. Your question and its corresponding answer, but not your name, will be posted to the Staff Council website. Should you choose to share your name with the Executive Board only, Staff Council will respond directly to you with a corresponding answer or the steps taken to find that answer. If you choose to remain anonymous, Staff Council will take your feedback under advisement, but a response will not be provided.

2019 Staff Council Elections

This is just a reminder that Staff Council will continue seeking nominations for 2019 elections through Wednesday, March 20! Click here to access the nomination online form.  Please take some time to consider whether you, or a colleague, would like to serve, and advocate for, the JCU staff community as a member of Staff Council.  Additional information about elections will be forthcoming.  Please check your email, Inside JCU, and/or the Staff Council website for updates!         

Supervisory Listening Session

To honor our colleagues' presence and hard work in this time of change, we are hosting a gathering this month to give our supervisory colleagues an opportunity to celebrate each other in a safe, supportive environment of mutual listening. 

Staff Council invites Supervisory staff to attend a Listening Session to share the successes, joys, challenges, and concerns you're encountering in your current staff role at JCU.  This session will also help Staff Council assess the effectiveness of our efforts this year to celebrate the contributions of our staff colleagues, and will help direct our strategic priorities for the 2019-20 academic year.

Wednesday, March 27 from 2pm - 3pm - supervisory staff members

The session will take place in the O’Dea Conference Room (Lombardo Student Center).

2019 Staff Recognition & Excellence Awards

The Staff Council Executive Committee and the Staff Council Recognition Committee invite you to nominate your fellow colleagues for the
2019 Staff Recognition and Excellence Awards!

The 4th Annual Staff Council Staff Excellence Awards recognize the professional contributions and service of the John Carroll University staff (non-exempt and exempt), and their integral role in promoting the University’s mission of inspiring “individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.”
Staff members may be nominated for one of four awards:

  • New Staff Member of the Year (1 – 3 years of service)
  • Staff Member of the Year (4 or more years of service)
  • Saint Ignatius of Loyola Leadership Award
  • Archbishop John Carroll Award for Learning

All regular staff members, full-time and part-time (20+ hours per week), in good standing with their department and the University are eligible.

click here.  All nominations must be received by May 17, 2019 and may be supported by up to three letters of recommendation.  Recipients will receive their awards on
May 23, 2019 during the All-Staff Meeting.
To avoid possible conflicts of interest, no Staff Council members involved in the decision-making process are eligible to nominate during their terms in office.

Human Resources Policies Under Review
1. Hiring Policy - The Hiring Policy has been revised to include provisions regarding the appropriate use of social media searches during the interviewing and hiring process.  The revised portion of the policy has been highlighted for your convenience.  The policy will be posted for review for 30 days.
