Dear Colleagues,

Happy Autumn!

Below you will find Staff Council's October newsletter.

Two things to which Staff Council would like to draw your attention:
  • Staff Council's Mission & Advocacy Committee is in need of volunteers to serve as Campus Colleagues.  A description of the Campus Colleague Program, as well as a link to sign up, can be found below.
  • Staff Council will host its first Listening Session of the academic year on Wednesday, November 7 from 12pm - 1pm in the Schell Conference Room (across from the Campus Ministry offices in the Lombardo Student Center).  This session is for non-supervisory staff.  A Listening Session for supervisory staff will be held in the Spring.  More information about this Listening Session, as well as a link to RSVP, can also be found below.
Also, Staff Council would like to remind you that, if you participate in a University-sanctioned service event or project, you should report that time as "Mission Leave" on your time sheet.

Lastly, as always, we ask that you please stay in touch with us and let us know how we are doing.  We want to hear from you! You are welcome to email Staff Council directly at, or contact us anonymously using the online feedback form located at council.

Thank you for all the hard that you do to make John Carroll the wonderful place that it is.

Staff Council's Mission & Advocacy Committee now facilitates JCU's Campus Colleague Program, and it is in need of new volunteers to serve as Campus Colleagues!

The JCU Campus Colleague Program matches an existing employee who has at least one year of service at JCU, with a new employee for a period of 3 months.

The goal of the program is two-fold:
• To welcome new employees and provide them with a point of contact for general inquiries regarding day-to-day aspects of working at the University.
• To help new employees acclimate to the culture at JCU and reduce any uncertainty that comes along with a new job.

New employees greatly appreciate the time their Campus Colleagues take to welcome them to their new role.

Should you be interested in volunteering, please click here to complete and submit a Google Form.

If you have any additional questions about the Campus Colleague program, please email Brandi Mandzak, Vice Chair of the Mission & Advocacy Committee, at

Staff Council greatly appreciates your help with this!

The last 18 months have marked a period of change for JCU's staff. Many new faces have joined the ranks of our colleagues, and many of us have new and different responsibilities. To honor our colleagues' presence and hard work in this time of change, we are hosting a gathering this fall to give our colleagues an opportunity to celebrate each other in a safe, supportive environment of mutual listening.

Staff Council invites non-supervisory staff to attend a Listening Session to share the successes, joys, challenges, and concerns you're encountering in your current staff role at JCU.

These sessions will also help Staff Council assess the effectiveness of our efforts this year to celebrate the contributions of our staff colleagues, and will help direct our strategic priorities for the 2019-20 academic year.

Please consider joining us:
Wednesday, November 7th from 12pm-1pm - non-supervisory staff members
          *light lunch provided -
Please RSVP by 12:00 noon on Monday, November 5th.

A session for supervisory staff members will be held in the Spring.

Please RSVP here so that we can be sure to have enough food available.
The session will take place in the Schell Conference Room
(formerly the Campus Ministry Conference Room, up the ramp from the bookstore).
Questions? Please contact Brandi Mandzak, Vice Chair of Mission and Advocacy, at or contact Staff Council through our Feedback Form.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

"Recognition and respect of all members of the John Carroll University community are necessary and appropriate for the University to live up to its mission, vision, and core values. As one of the largest constituencies on the University campus (second only to students), the staff represents a highly diverse group of professionals whose contributions are critical to the quality, integrity, credibility and continued growth of the University. An informed, active, and engaged community, with the ability to participate and share its opinions and interests concerning the conduct of institutional affairs and life in the workplace, is critical to the mission of the University." -- Staff Council Constitution
