I'M EMBRACING MY YEAR OF HEALTH
In the middle of winter, who doesn’t need a little pick me up? During what is already a very challenging time, getting down to basics and taking good care of our skin is one way to restore some of our vitality. I am certainly not an expert on skin or beauty, but I enjoy following a few beauty bloggers on Instagram, and I’m often amazed at some of the tips and tools they use to enhance their skin. I’m always happy to learn their tips and tools, so this week we have dedicated an entire issue to this topic.

MY FAVORITE ARBONNE PRODUCTS
I am regularly asked what products I use, and I’ve used Arbonne for more than 15 years. I’m not a distributor, and I don’t sell it; I get my products from my dear friend Jan. I simply like the way it makes my skin feel. I have super sensitive skin. Among any 1,000 people with sensitive skin, I’m in the most sensitive 1 percent of that group.

MY DAILY BEVERAGES, WATER WITH FRESH CITRUS AND CELERY JUICE
In my own regimen, trying not to eat more than necessary has been essential to my overall health. I’ve dedicated this year to living my best life—it’s my year of health—but I am coming from a place of joy rather than from a place of feeling like I’m not doing enough. For me it’s about rest, eating nutrient dense foods, moving my body, and taking care of my skin. One ritual that I have done super consistently throughout my adult life is daily sunscreen and staying out of the sun without a hat or covering of some kind. That’s been fundamental in taking care of my skin.
I LOVE THE RITUAL OF WASHING MY FACE
Right now, I’m dedicated to washing my face twice a day and using a serum and a moisturizer, drinking 100 ounces of water every day, getting my steps in, and working out regularly. I have been coached by my friend Liz Josefsberg (author and weight loss expert) and I love her philosophy of Target 100, a holistic and habit-based weight loss approach that changes your mindset around its six pillars, including hydration, stress, and sleep.

VACATION TERI ALWAYS WEARING PROPER SUN PROTECTION
I am on a path to learning the ways in which I can create the kind of internal beauty that reflects itself externally. This week I’ve asked some experts to share their favorite tip and a tool or product they love. You’ll find their contributions below the podcast. On a personal note, If you are thinking about using Arbonne, talk to my friend Jan—there's nothing better than supporting a small business!

In this episode, I sit down with fellow cookbook author Julia Turshen, whose new cookbook, Simply Julia, will be released March 2. She is truly the home cook’s home cook and is so good at articulating the deep value of home cooks--I couldn’t agree more! We also discuss writing good recipes, cooking a little extra, knowing where our food comes from, the writing process, cooking as anxiety relief, and how lgbtq+ representation is embodied in her work.

Urembo Asili is Swahili for bare beauty. I tap into the essence of my deep-rooted African rituals to create luxurious skincare products using a thoughtful blend of modern science and Africa's most powerful, unique ingredients. I love the ancient beauty ritual of oil cleansing. It is the simplest and most effective way to transform your skin, purging dirt, sweat, and excess sebum. Calendula Oil Cleanser ($50.00) stimulates skin cell growth, prompting regeneration and giving skin a plumper, fresher appearance, thanks to the Kalahari melon seed oil we source from the Namibian Desert. I recommend it for all skin types.

MOISTURIZING SECRET FOR WINTER SKIN
My patients are frustrated with their dry, ashy, scaly winter skin. Lotion or oil just sits on top of the dryness on their arms and legs. The secret to smooth, glowing skin is to use a moisturizer with lactic acid, like my favorite, AmLactin Daily ($9.49), right after the bath or shower when your skin is still moist. Then add a layer of NOW Almond ($8.37) or Avocado Oil on top of the AmLactin. The lactic acid gently dissolves the layer of dead skin, so the hydration can be absorbed. The oil seals it in. (Don’t use lactic acid on rashes or freshly shaved legs, as it can sting and irritate.)

MAKE MAGIC WITH ORANGE FIZZ
AMY CHIN WITH HER FAVORITE ORANGE FIZZ BY BITE BEAUTY
This “no makeup” makeup look will enhance your natural beauty. For lips, cheeks, and eyelids, my favorite color is Orange Fizz by Bite Beauty ($27.00). And it lasts! I use my pointer finger and just tap it on, starting from the middle of the lips and going outward. Add more to the middle of the lips for that stain effect, and it will look like an ombré. Smile and apply a little dab to the balls of your cheeks. Lightly dust and blend the color outward and up to open up the face and add a pop of color. Last, take what’s left on your finger and dab it on your eyelids. Start closer to the lash line and work your way up. Less is more!

Throughout early adult life, my typical beauty routine was solely mascara and lip gloss. I spent abundant time outdoors, and still do! When the wrinkles appeared, my face needed love in return for the effortless glow it had gifted me with for so many years. Now 60, I’ve learned that a healthy skin base shines through any level of makeup application, that moisturizer is my favorite tool, and that I still love a simple routine: copious water, adequate sleep, nighttime cleansing, Arbonne’s AgeWell Intense Repairing Night Cream ($91.00), a quick rinse in the morning, then an SPF moisturizer work together to provide lasting benefits.

HARRISON USING HIS FAVORITE JAMES CHARLES PALETTE
During these cold winter months, I love to brighten up my look with some bold eye shadows. The James Charles Morphe palette ($39 for 39 shades) delivers on that! There’s a color story in there for everyone. You can get a little edgy, doing buildable looks in varying hues of blues, greens, purples, and pinks. But there are also so many beautiful neutrals in creams, golds, and browns. And there’s a black shadow that subs in as a great liner with a narrow wet brush. It’s a one-stop shop for eyes.

THE JAMES CHARLES MORPHE PALETTE

Typically, I make my eyes the focal point of any look. I love to play around with different colors and shapes based on how I feel that day. I take a lot of inspiration from anime characters, and I try to simplify their persona into an editorial look. My favorite eye makeup product is eyeliner, because of the endless shapes, colors, and possibilities! Since I have green eyes, I use purple and orange to make them really pop. I like to apply eyeliner only on my inner and outer corner to enhance my almond eye-shape and give a really sultry look.

A SKINCARE TOOL WORTH THE INVESTMENT
ZIIP is perfect for lifting and sculpting my face. It’s a micro-current/nano-current skincare device that boosts your at-home facial routine. I love the choose-your-adventure nature of the ZIIP app and device ($499). You can select “pigment” for spots and hyperpigmentation, “total clearing” for acne treatment, “sensitive” for energizing the skin, “lymph & lift” for contouring and debloating, “vital eyes” for dark circles and puffiness, “jowls, lips”—there’s nothing this device can’t do. Is it an investment? Yes! But it’s a great full-service device that does everything you’d want a micro-current/nano-current device to do.

GREEN CURRY MEATBALLS
IN MY MADE IN PAN

Growing up sitting at the NoCrumbsLeft dining room table with Lucy every Tuesday, I was no stranger to delicious food. Now as a 24-year-old, I love my cookbook because I no longer need to ask Teri how long to soft boil an egg, or what the best way to cook broccolini is. I can just look in my book!

WE'RE LOOKING FOR A NEW TEAM MEMBER
We are looking for a part-time manager for the pottery shop, and who better to ask than our own community! This is NOT a 100% remote position. You must live in or near Chicago, be extremely organized, and LOVE working on spreadsheets and numbers! You must have great attention to detail, as you will be in charge of many moving parts, including numbers, detailed reporting, and interacting with customers with issues, questions, or concerns, via email. The ideal person will have some customer service experience, as well as experience with organizational or project management positions, google sheets, and excel spreadsheets. Shopify experience is a plus! Click here to email if you're interested or know someone who would be an excellent fit. Please forward this to potentially interested people. If you lead us to the right person, there is an Everything Bowl in your future!
