Creekwatcher Currents: February 2017

Happy 2017, Creekwatchers! January is now just recent history, which means I'm gearing up for the best Creekwatchers season ever!

You're receiving this email because you're either a Creekwatcher or a program supporter. If you are not either, please let me know, and I'll remove you.

Information about training, a work day in the office, and our Toast to the Nanticoke Fundraising committee follow. Also, the Reclaim Our River Nanticoke Series will be kicking off on Monday with a presentation about monarchs. Please see the blue sidebar for important dates and other information.

If you have any questions, please contact me. I look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Tenth Annual Nanticoke Creekwatchers Training and Season Kick-off

Baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park
Saturday, March 18, 10AM-4PM
Breakfast goodies provided by Lower Shore RSVP

Kick off the tenth season of Creekwatching with your fellow Creekwatchers, NWA staff, and guests! We'll go through orientation, policy, and protocol, hand out kits, and then use equipment in the field during the afternoon. Although returning Creekwatchers do not have to stay until the end, I highly recommend that even veteran Creekwatchers practice using equipment with staff present, as this will minimize common mistakes that we see early in the season. And that means you won't have to hear from me. :)

If you absolutely cannot make this training, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can set up an alternative training session.
Creekwatchers Spring Work Day on February 28
A Secchi-free event!

If you have the time, we have the bottles! And Whirl-paks! And foil squares!

Our spring Creekwatchers Work Day will be held on Tuesday, February 28 at the Vienna office. I'll provide you with a tasty, nutritious lunch, and you'll count and bag many things and hopefully have a great time doing it! This is our big prep day for kit building, and in the past, you've helped me get a lot done in a short period of time.

We'll get started at 9AM and wrap up no later than 2PM. Please let me know if you can make the workday by emailing or calling me at 443.944.1175. Your help is much appreciated!
Toast to the Nanticoke Fundraising Committee
A couple of you are already part of this committee, but we need as much help as possible to make this year the most successful yet.

Toast to the Nanticoke is our primary fundraiser and generates soft monies for our organization. Currently, the vast majority (90+%) of our funding comes from grants. This puts us in a precarious position in terms of having enough cash in the coffers while trying to get too over-extended programmatically. We have been working to improve our grant versus soft fundraising ratio, and we need your help more than ever!

Toast Committee members help us sell tickets and distribute flyers, solicit silent auction items, help brainstorm potential sponsors, or assist in a host of other ways. If you'd like to assist--even if you're not sure what you would do--please let me know, and I'll send you details about the first planning meeting.
