Ebony Humphrey is the first female to have refereed a local men’s Premier League division 1 match.
Wielding a whistle, Ms Humphrey 18, stepped onto the Myrtle St Fields at Claremont Meadows on Sunday for a game between St Marys Convent Soccer Club and Penrith Rovers FC.
Ms Humphrey started refereeing in 2012, calling the shots at under-11s games.
She played soccer between the ages of 11 and 16, and represented Australia overseas in a futsal competition, but stopped due to injuries.
The Kingswood resident has been in Nepean Referees Group’s referee development program for the past two years and referees for the association as well as Football NSW.
NRG manager Graham Chapman said Ms Humphrey was prepared for the “unrelenting task” of being a premier league referee.
