Navigating Moving Water
Hopefully you have had a great start to your school year and that it will continue throughout the year! Like the heavy rainfalls of late, we will be navigating moving waters throughout the coming year. One of the changes that has already occurred is the WAAE board hired Nicole Nelson as its Executive Director, and we look forward to her guidance. We thank Leslie Svacina and wish her the best of luck as her family adjusts to their new roles and responsibilities. The board will be presenting the long-anticipated strategic plan at the fall in-services. Many people have spent hours creating this document to serve as a guide to provide direction for the association. This plan will be reviewed annually by the board to ensure and maintain the integrity of this association. We will be celebrating 100 years of the Smith-Hughes Act, and our theme this year is “Diamond Anniversary Celebration of 100 Years of Agricultural Education.” November 29 thru Dec 3rd many members will be presenting, receiving recognition and attending the NAAE Convention in Las Vegas.  Adapting, creating and forward-thinking is the life of an agricultural educator. I wish all of you the very best in the coming year!

WAAE Members Replenish National Relief Fund
The annual contribution to the NAAE Relief Fund from WAAE Members was $4,805. The funds were much higher than most years and were raised from conference raffles and individuals' contributions as a registration  option. These funds support peers in time of personal/family crisis.

Chrystal Seeley-Schreck - WTCS
In April, Chrystal Seeley-Schreck became the Education Director for Agriculture, Natural Resources & STEM for the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). She brings over 13 years of professional experience in natural resources, environmental and science education, most recently with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Chrystal is pleased to be part of moving agriculture education forward within the technical college system during this time where agriculture is facing new challenges and opportunities. Currently, Wisconsin’s technical colleges offer over 50 degree, diploma or certificate granting programs in the area of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Upcoming WTCS programs will bring post-secondary agriculture education to new areas of the state and help existing agriculture programs evolve to meet industry needs of specialization, precision technology and other innovations. They are continuing to promote strong partnerships with local high schools to enhance the high school – technical college – career pathway.
