  • Record or clear promise of publication
  • Record of teaching equity-deserving students
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in either early childhood music, working with children with exceptionalities, urban education, world music/ethnomusicology, popular/vernacular music, and/or music technology.
Position Expectations:
The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Education, appointment to begin August 2023. The school seeks a dynamic teacher and researcher to provide leadership in culturally responsive and sustaining practices in music education for our newly established School of the Arts. The successful candidate will have preK-12 and university teaching experience, knowledge of major philosophical and pedagogical approaches in music education, and a developing record of research or scholarly/creative activity in the field of music education. The successful candidate will bring expertise in at least one area of non-Western repertoire (e.g., music from the African diaspora, music of Asian American or Pacific Islander heritages) and/or familiarity with repertoire of composers who have been historically disenfranchised.

Candidates with experience in general music education, choral, or instrumental music education areas are welcome to apply. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in diaspora, cultural, and/or ethnic music education. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education methods, curriculum, and research to prepare teacher candidates for prek-12 programs; share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative and other functions; and contribute to the relevant interdisciplinary programs at the College.
