Assistant Professor of Music Education- Choral, tenure-track
PhD degree in Music Education required. At least three years of successful K-12 choral music teaching experience required.
Position Expectations:
Develop and teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate music education programs; mentor and supervise students in field experiences and internships; collaborate with faculty across the School of Music and others in pursuing external funding in support of scholarly activities; develop and maintain a regional and national profile within the profession and engage in scholarly and creative activities; and actively engage in departmental recruitment activities.

Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience in one or more of the following: non-traditional vocal music, popular music pedagogy, multicultural music pedagogy, community music, and/or music for special needs; Evidence of excellence in university teaching; Experience and/or willingness to design and implement online and hybrid courses for undergraduate and graduate music education programs. Experience and/or willingness to mentor minorities, or other underrepresented groups, are encouraged to highlight such efforts in the application.

The FIU School of Music comprises approximately 250 students and a full- and part-time faculty of 50. It offers B.M. and M.M. degrees in composition, performance, music business, and music technology; a B.A. degree in Music; and a B.M. and M.S. in music education. It presents a full performance calendar in the Herbert & Nicole Performing Arts Center on the FIU campus and throughout the Miami community. The School of Music is one of the eight units in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA), including the Departments of Theatre, Art + Art History, Communication, Journalism + Media, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design. CARTA has approximately 100 faculty and staff and 2,000 undergraduate and graduate majors. Florida International University is classified as an R1 "highest research" Carnegie designation, and the School of Music is accredited by NASM. The Music Education program is also accredited by CAEP.
