Qualifications:
Candidates must have:
  • Master’s Degree
  • A minimum of three years of successful orchestra/strings teaching experience at the elementary, middle, and/or high school levels.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in directing and conducting high school or collegiate-level orchestra
  • Hold or be eligible to hold an initial or professional Colorado teaching license with K- 12 Music Endorsement. See https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof for details on requirements, including reciprocal certification process for out-of-state license holders. Note that it is not necessary to apply for or receive licensure to be considered for this position, merely that applicants be eligible according to CDE requirements.
Position Expectations:
The University of Colorado Boulder College of Music invites applications for an Instructor of Music Education! This is a non-tenure track, three-year renewable appointment as Instructor with background in music education (orchestra/strings), string pedagogy, and orchestral conducting. Appointment to commence in August 2023.

The final assignment of duties will be based on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. The teaching load is three courses per semester. In addition to conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra, duties could include teaching undergraduate music education (instrumental methods, secondary music teaching approaches, string techniques) and string pedagogy (undergraduate and Masters-level) courses; supervising student teachers; advising undergraduate string music education students and graduate music education students; and serving on Masters-level committees.

Opportunities for additional summer teaching are possible. The instructor will be expected to contribute to service within the department, College, and to professional organizations; develop a mutually supportive relationship with local school orchestra teachers; and recruit music education students. Professional engagement, including presentations at state conferences or adjudication at regional orchestra festivals is encouraged.

  • A short essay (no more than 1 single-spaced page uploaded in PDF format) that addresses the following statement: "Our unit recognizes that our mission is strengthened by contributions from varied perspectives. Describe what your commitment to educating music teachers in diversity, equity, and inclusion looks like in practice."
