Assistant Professor of Music Education - String Emphasis, tenure-track
Completed doctorate by August 2023, ABD considered. K-12 teaching and orchestral conducting experience preferred.
Position Expectations:
Converse University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Education to begin in the fall of 2023. Candidates should have completed a doctorate in Music Education by August, 2023, with a minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience in public schools. Additional university-level teaching experience is preferred.

In addition to conducting the Converse Symphony Orchestra, duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, supervising student teachers, and advising masters-level theses. Other duties may be assigned based on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. The candidate will be expected to develop supportive relationships with local school music teachers to strengthen recruiting efforts. Scholarly engagement is also encouraged at local, state, and national levels.

Converse University was founded in 1889 as Converse College to provide a liberal education to undergraduate women. Since then, Converse's offerings have expanded to include multiple graduate degrees. In 2021 it officially became a co-educational university. The mission of Converse University is to empower students to become transformative leaders who see clearly, decide wisely, and act justly.

The Petrie School of Music is located within the School of the Arts and comprised of exceptional multi-disciplined programs in performance, music education, and music therapy. A charter member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the School of Music is housed in the Blackman Music Hall, featuring the Daniel Recital Hall along with dedicated rehearsal, classroom, and private studio spaces. The School of Music also makes use of Twichell Auditorium, housed in the Zimmerli Performance Center on campus and seating nearly 1500 patrons. Renowned for its outstanding acoustics, this recently-renovated venue has hosted performances by celebrated artists since it was built in 1899.
