Assistant Professor of Music Education, tenure track
Qualifications:
Opportunity for an Assistant Professor of Music Education, tenure-track – 9 months with possibility of summer responsibilities. Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package. Kent State University offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in music education. The Hugh A. Glauser School of Music seeks a dynamic teacher and creative researcher to contribute to our Music Education division and instrumental music education for the state, region, and nation.
Position Expectations:
Primary responsibilities will include teaching courses in music education in graduate and undergraduate programs, supervision of student teachers, supervision of undergraduate and graduate research, and other responsibilities as per the interests of the candidate and needs of the division. We seek candidates with a strong background in instrumental (band) music and pedagogy and who have experience with or interest in online education. Areas of research and practice may include instrumental music, social justice, intersections of world music and music education, creativity, alternative and progressive approaches to music making, or other subjects that would contribute to the broad research interests of our division and school. Additional duties may include committee service, recruitment activities, and participation in the ongoing work of the Music Education division, School of Music, and the College of the Arts. An earned doctorate or equivalent in music education is strongly preferred; ABD candidates will be considered. We seek candidates with significant K-12 teaching experience and prefer those with collegiate teaching experience. An emerging or established record of scholarship including publications, conference presentations, and other appropriate activities is required. Especially sought are candidates possessing versatility, energy, a commitment to work with diverse populations, a collegial disposition, and who are enthusiastic about participating in ongoing curricular transformation in order to address music education issues of the twenty-first century.
