Assistant Professor
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in music education or equivalent degree;
  • Success as a music educator with a minimum of three years of secondary-level classroom string teaching experience; and
  • Ability to effectively teach and model in the private lesson/classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching string orchestra and/or string techniques;
  • College teaching experience;
  • Experience in Suzuki instructional techniques;
  • Experience supervising student teachers; and
  • Violin or bass candidates preferred but all others are encouraged to apply.
Position Expectations:
The School of Music at Texas State University seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of music education string specialist.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in string music education, graduate courses in areas of expertise, and other courses as needed;
  • Maintain a record of scholarly/creative activity, participate in outreach programs, and make substantive professional contributions in the field of music education;
  • Supervise student teachers and graduate-level capstone projects;
  • Participate in university, community, and professional service which may include recruiting, supervision/management of the Texas State String Project and mentorship of an established ASTA Student Chapter; and
  • Teach applied studio lessons as needed Specific duties are assigned by the Director of the School of Music. All positions are subject to the availability of funds.
