Dottie Sink Sykes Distinguished Professorship in Music Education
Doctoral degree. Evidence of significant and successful Music teaching at P-12 level, and Music Education methods teaching experience at college level. A record of scholarly/creative activity in Music Education appropriate to the level of Professor. Demonstrated excellence and ability to teach and model experiential music learning, to engage collaboratively with colleagues within and across academic units, and to communicate effectively with students and faculty from diverse musical backgrounds.
Position Expectations:
Teach undergraduate music education courses for music education, elementary education and non-education majors; and conduct scholarly/creative activity that enhances the mission of the Hayes School of Music, providing leadership in Music Education at the national or international level. Actively pursue research and creative activities to achieve national and international prominence in music education. This position carries a 2-2 teaching load, with expectation for undergraduate research collaborations and supervision, and expectation for commitment to teaching and scholarly collaborations with Hayes School of Music faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to vibrant school, college, and university-level interdisciplinary communities of scholars, teachers and artists.

Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina System. Located in Boone, North Carolina, the University enrolls approximately 18,000 students. The Hayes School of Music consists of just under 500 music majors including 170 music education majors, 44 full-time faculty, more than 20 part-time instructors, and 20 graduate assistants, and offers undergraduate degrees in music education, music performance, music therapy, music theory/composition, sacred music, and music industry studies and graduate degrees in music performance, including composition and conducting, and music therapy.
