Earned doctorate in music education (or equivalent) by August 16, 2017; three or more years of successful K-12 music teaching as well as college teaching experience; and an emerging or established record of scholarship, including publications, conference presentations, and other appropriate activity.

The College of Music at Michigan State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure system Assistant/Associate Professor position in String Music Education beginning Fall 2017.

The Music Education Area at Michigan State University is committed to encouraging and expanding scholarship and teaching practice in new and innovative areas of music education as well as to developing the practical applications of that scholarship. We seek a creative, dynamic colleague with successful teaching expertise, a scholarly agenda that is focused and innovative, and potential for leadership in our profession.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses related to the candidate's background and scholarly interests. Preference for string background. Areas of interest may include:
  • String methods and techniques
  • String pedagogy
  • Vernacular and/or informal music making
  • Quantitative and/or mixed methods research approaches
  • Creative musicianship
  • Music technology applications
  • Music and accessibility
  • Psychology of Music
  • Curriculum Seminar
In addition, the candidate will contribute to the student teaching program, advising of masters and doctoral students, and the work of the New Directions Institute ( Additional duties include committee service, recruiting activities, continuing connections between music education and general education, grant writing and participation in the ongoing work of the music education area and the college.
