Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology, tenure-track
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in ethnomusicology or related field or professional experience equivalent.
  • Demonstrable record of research in ethnomusicology or related field.
  • Teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience organizing and leading musical performances outside of the western canon.
  • Experience engaging the community and/or the schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate ethnography and theoretical analysis in one or more traditional and/or contemporary musical practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with dancers and/or other artists in research and teaching.
Position Expectations:
The School of Music at the University of South Florida is searching for a creative and collaborative ethnomusicologist. This is a tenure track position which contributes to the research, teaching, and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 8, 2022.

The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda and annually report on progress toward promotion and tenure. They will offer ethnomusicology courses for undergraduate and graduate music students in areas of their expertise, as well as core musicology courses as needed by the school. In addition, they will be expected to organize workshops, symposia, convocations, etc. covering a wide range of ethnomusicology topics and areas. They will also liaise with faculty from other areas in the School of Music, across the University, and with entities in the community.
