Despite the ongoing challenges due to COVID, our team has been busy serving customers and supporting partners in various parts of the country. This quarter has seen us make and distribute soap, train new Community WASH Promoters, support health care facilities improve their safe water and handwashing as well as roll out a pilot to test instalment payment for water filters. We hope you enjoy our Q3 Newsletter.

Water Filter Distribution and Training in Narok County
in Partnership with Africa Hope
Staff of Aqua Clara Kenya and Africa Hope Distributing water filters to 160 community members in Narok County
Since 2018, we have been partnering with Africa Hope, an NGO operating in Narok County, to train community members through our WASHiriki approach. So far, we have trained and supported 30 Community WASH Promoters who have jointly recruited and trained 290 community members leading to the adoption of household water treatment and safe storage. In 2019, 55 WASHiriki members acquired water filters. In August of this year, despite the pandemic, the two organizations visited to deliver an additional 160 filters to newly graduated WASHiriki club members. We thank Africa Hope for their continued faith in us and look forward to serving many more people together.

Rent-to-Own Pilot with funding from Aqua for All

A group of Community WASH Promoters being trained on the PaygOps software that will be used to process instalment payments.
We are happy to report that this last quarter we received funding from Aqua for All, a Dutch non-profit organization that invests in WASH, to pilot the sale of water filters through instalments. We will be running the pilot together with our partner organization, Basic Water Needs. With the majority of our customers living on less than $5 a day, the possibility to pay through several small instalments will enable more people to afford the water filters. We are grateful to Aqua for All for this funding and are already underway with the pilot.

Soap Making and Distribution to Aid in the Fight Against COVID-19
In our last newsletter, we updated you on our ongoing partnership with Procter and Gamble (P&G) and Transform International to distribute P&G purifiers of water and handwashing soap. In July, our staff were able to make 3,000 litres of soap which we have been distributing through Community WASH Promoters. The exercise is ongoing and we hope to distribute 6,000 litres before the end of the year leading to effective handwashing in the communities we serve. This is especially important at this time as it is one of the ways to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
