Early spring is a beautiful time in the arboretum. Trees that bloom in April include shadbush, redbud, Carolina Silverbell, Magnolia stellata, crab apples, ornamental cherries and pears. Take note of the large Cornus mas in front of the Knippenberg Center. Shrubs include flowering quince, forsythia, pussy willow, spicebush, winter Hazel, Daphne, Korean spice viburnum and fothergilla. The snowdrops and winter aconite are finishing their bloom. Look for crocus and early Iris throughout Laurelwood. And don't miss our hellebores near the South Rock Garden.
