Employee Spotlight - Clifford Malivert

As the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) celebrates its 50th anniversary during the 2020-21 academic year, the conference office recently announced the Men’s Tennis All-Time Team, presented by The Home Depot, comprised of 50 outstanding student-athletes throughout the conference’s history.

Our own Clifford Malivert, the facility manager at Sweetwater Tennis Center, was named one of the all-time top 50 players from the MEAC Conference. His accomplishments include being named the 2005 MEAC Rookie of the Year and being a two-time First Team All-MEAC (2007, 2008). The All-Time Team is listed in alphabetical order by athletes’ last names.

View the all-time list here.

Clifford has been with Cobb PARKS and Sweetwater Tennis Center for the past two years. He has spent his entire career involved in tennis, including a brief stint on the pro tour, and many years training with professional level players. Since he has been with Cobb County, he brings his enthusiasm for the game of tennis to Sweetwater and has created programming and enthusiasm from the local tennis community.

Located in Norfolk, VA, the MEAC is made up of 11 outstanding historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University and South Carolina State University.

Congratulations to Clifford for this outstanding accomplishment!

Nesbitt Union Chapel Comes to Life!

Cobb PARKS will start work on a project to “ghost frame” part of what remains of the historic Nesbitt Union Chapel later this year. The stone chapel once stood at 1305 Powder Springs Street, Marietta and served as a place for education and worship for those in the area. The land and building were put in trust by the Nesbitt family in December 1886. Over the years, the structure fell into disrepair and most of what was left of the building was destroyed by a bulldozer in 2004. Portions of a front wall, a side wall and the front steps are all that endure. The project includes framing the front of the building including setting the original chapel bell, site clean-up, and some signage.

Camp Horizon Campers Had Fun This Summer!

Camp Horizon summer camp had something unique to offer every child with a disability and it has been an awesome summer for some very special campers! Our goal is to meet each child’s developmental needs and to provide a safe and fun environment. The participants had a blast at Camp Horizon. Animal week was very interesting for our campers. They enjoyed seeing the different types of small animals and reptiles.

The camper shirt says it all -  “it doesn’t get any better than this”. Here are couple of photos from this summer's camp!
