Register now for spring sports and activities

It may be cold outside, but now is the time to register for sports and activities for the spring season. Many sports and activities have registrations in January, including baseball, softball, soccer, track, tennis and BMX. Our youth league programs are administered by volunteer organizations, so dates and times of registrations will vary.  For specific information on the activities your child is interested in, see the athletics web page. Here you will find information on youth baseball, softball, soccer, track and BMX. Many registration deadlines are fast approaching - don't be left out!

Adult spring softball registration begins in February. For those interested, you can download a softball registration packet (available in February) on the adult softball web page. See the athletics web page for a listing of all programs.

Fall season wraps up for Cobb Adult Athletic Leagues

The Adult Athletics unit of Cobb PARKS just wrapped up a very exciting and successful fall season. For fall, Cobb PARKS offers adult softball and adult ultimate frisbee. Our adult softball leagues are offered at three different locations: Al Bishop Complex, Terrell Mill Park, and Kennworth Park. The Al Bishop Complex offered leagues Sunday-Thursday and had teams. Terrell Mill offered leagues Tuesday-Thursday and had 25 teams. Kennworth offered leagues Monday-Wednesday and had 26 teams. There were 14 total league winners crowned during the fall season. This year we offered our first ever softball tournament of champions which took all competitive league champions and runner-ups and put them in a countywide tournament to crown the best team in the county.

Our 2019 Fall Men’s Champion was Georgia Dawgs and our 2019 Fall COED Champion was Cool Cats. Both teams hailed from Kennworth Park. The softball season was a great success and we can’t wait for our spring season. Registration for our spring season will open in February and league play will begin in March.

Our adult ultimate frisbee league is now entering year two since its inception with Cobb PARKS. Our 2019 Fall season just concluded at the end of November with six teams. Each team played 10 regular season games and finished with a single elimination tournament. Our 2019 ultimate frisbee champion was Team Red. We offer three seasons a year, spring/summer/fall. Our spring season is set to begin in March with registration opening in February.

We are currently in our winter adult basketball season with leagues at Fullers Recreation Center at Fullers Park and Ron Anderson Recreation Center at Wild Horse Creek Park. We have a Tuesday and Thursday league at Fullers with eight teams in each league. Our Ron Anderson league is played on Thursday and it consists of eight teams as well. The top four teams in each league will advance to play in our countywide tournament of champions to crown the top team in the county. This tournament will take place in January.

For any questions regarding adult athletics, feel free to contact Brody Whitlock at 770-528-8862.

Silver Comet Trail closure: Noses Creek Bridge

The Silver Comet Trail bridge over Noses Creek, located near the Carter Road parking lot and trail mile marker 8.4, will be closed from January 6th to February 20th. There will be no access through the construction site during this closure and no detour will be available. The Wild Horse Creek Trail will remain open with the potential for temporary closures and flagging under the Silver Comet Trail bridge. In addition, parts of the Carter Road parking lot will be closed for construction equipment and supplies.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but our primary concern is the safety of all trail users.

Save the date: Bring One for the Chipper

After the holidays, you can help the environment by recycling your live Christmas tree on Saturday, January 4th. Bring One for the Chipper is an annual Christmas tree recycling program and mulch from recycled trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and individual yards.

Live undecorated and unflocked Christmas trees will be accepted Saturday, January 4th only from 9am to 4pm at many Home Depot and PARKS locations in Cobb.

To view all of the locations, click here for the event flyer.

Free saplings will be available at the event while supplies last. Bring One for the Chipper sponsors include the Home Depot, Davey Tree Expert Company, TAG Grinding Services Inc. and Cobb County PARKS. Many local sponsors and volunteers also make contributions and provide in-kind services. Free mulch will be available. For more information, call (770) 528-1135 or visit keepcobbbeautiful.org.

Photography permits required for commercial shoots in parks

In November of 2017, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a plan for permits and fees for commercial photographers wanting to use Cobb PARKS properties for photo shoots. This was done to protect the properties and the enjoyment of parks users.  Information on photography permits can be found here.
