Picnic Pavilions and Facilities to Open for Reservations

The Cobb County PARKS Department would like to welcome back our patrons to pavilions and facilities!  Online reservations for usage on or after July 1, 2020 have been reopened.

Under the guidelines of Governor Kemp’s Executive Order, social distancing must be maintained and gatherings will be limited to 50 people or less.  As we continue to move forward with reopening, safety is a priority for staff and residents alike and we ask for your cooperation with these restrictions.

Please note this does NOT apply to our large event venues – Mable House Barnes Amphitheater, Jim R. Miller Park & Event Center, Civic Center and Jennie T. Anderson Theatre.  These venues remain closed as we work toward a plan for these venues under ever-changing guidelines.

For additional COVID-19 updates, please check Cobb County's website.

Summer Arts Programs

As we attempt to return back to normal life, or at least the new normal, our art's staff has been creating exciting art opportunities for everyone. There will be some changes this summer, as our in-person classes will be operating with a 5-student maximum, all classes will enforce social distancing, and it is recommended students wear masks in the classroom. Cobb PARKS has also instituted a screening process to enter the building. When you arrive for class your temperature will be checked, and you will be given a wristband. Parents will not be able to wait in the lobby for students to finish classes – as lobbies are closed to the public.

This summer we will have several virtual options for students. Please note that all classes are taught by PARKS employees, and each center will have more limited offerings than a typical semester. We hope you use this opportunity to explore classes and workshops in different art centers across the county. If you are interested in a class that is not listed, please email your ideas to info@artplacemarietta.org.

For a full schedule of summer art offerings, please view our brochure here.

2020 'Fun in the Park' photo contest

As you are out enjoying Cobb parks and facilities, be sure to bring your camera and capture the fun and memories of your sports activities, the beauty of nature and wildlife in the parks and anything else that shows why you enjoy spending time at the park. You can enter up to 10 of your best shots in the 16th annual "Fun in the Park' Photo Contest. The contest is open to all photographers. See rules and download the entry form on the photo contest web page.

2020 SPLOST Renewal

Cobb residents will be asked in November of 2020 to renew the county’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for another six years. The current SPLOST, which has built regional libraries, major transportation projects, and upgraded our parks and buildings, will expire in December of 2021.

The SPLOST has been a fixture in Cobb County for decades, helping the county and its cities upgrade its infrastructure without putting more burden on property taxes. If voters approve the extension, the focus will be maintaining that infrastructure, while also building a new animal shelter, upgrade public safety facilities, and continuing needed improvements to park facilities. For PARKS, improvements would include:

  • Implement Technology, Life Safety & Security Improvements
  • Building renovations and improvements
  • Synthetic Turf Conversion and replacement
  • Electrical & lighting upgrades
  • Site, Erosion Pond/Lake/Dam Improvements
  • Mechanical System Replacements
  • Park and Facility Signage

You can view a detailed park's list here. For more information, see Cobb County's website.
