Union Chapel project completed

Cobb PARKS recently completed the project to “ghost frame” part of what remains of the historic Union Chapel. The stone chapel once stood at 1305 Powder Springs Street, Marietta and served as a place for education and worship for those in the area.

The land and building were put in trust by the Nesbitt family in December 1886. Over the years, the structure fell into disrepair, and most of what was left of the building was destroyed by a bulldozer in 2004. Portions of a front wall, a side wall and the front steps are all that endure.

The project was comprised of framing the front of the building including setting the original chapel bell. Some of the remaining rocks from the original building are currently being used to construct a seat wall around the front and a portion of the side to provide visitors a concept of the size of the original building. Plans include stockpiling remaining rock for future use, cleaning up the site, and planting a tree buffer behind where the building once stood.

Join the fun with glass-blowing workshops

The Mable House Arts Center recently finished up two successful glass-blowing workshops in October. Mr. Arthur Wilson of Silica Burns taught students how to handle and shape molten glass into decorative pumpkins. This traveling workshop will visit other art centers throughout the fall. Check out additional glass-blowing workshops (cups and ornaments) in November at The Art Station - Big Shanty.
