Anderson Theatre racks up the awards

The winners have been announced for the 2022 BroadwayWorld Atlanta Awards, honoring the best in regional productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between Oct. 1, 2021 through Sept. 30, 2022. The audiences voted and made their selections for the best theatre and performances.

The Jennie T. Anderson Theatre and Cobb PARKS were the recipients of 13 BroadwayWorld Regional Awards for their 2022 programming and events. BroadwayWorld is an online arts hub and resource for theatrical events around the nation. Every year, each state recognizes plays, musicals, actors, and designers similar to the Tony Awards. For this year’s recognition, BroadwayWorld Atlanta (which covers the entire state of Georgia) awarded the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre with top awards, including Best Musical and Favorite Local Theatre, along with 11 other awards (see full list below):

Best Choreography of a Play or Musical (Professional)
Winner: Jalise Wilson & Candy McLellan - CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Costume Design of a Play or Musical (Professional)
Winner: Cole Spivia - THE WILD PARTY - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Direction of a Musical (Professional)
Winner: Amanda Wansa Morgan - NEXT TO NORMAL - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Ensemble Performance (Professional)
Winner: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Lighting Design of a Play or Musical (Professional)
Winner: Michael Carver - CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Music Direction and Orchestra Performance (Professional)
Winner: John Michael D'Haviland and Holt McCarley - NEXT TO NORMAL - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Musical (Professional)
Winner: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Performer in a Musical (Professional)
Winner: Kayce Grogan-Wallance - CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Production of an Opera (Professional)
Winner: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Scenic Design of a Play or Musical (Professional)
Winner: Bobby Johnston - THE WILD PARTY - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical (Professional)
Winner: Bobby Johnston - NEXT TO NORMAL - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Best Supporting Performer in a Musical (Professional)
Winner: Max Walls - CAROLINE, OR CHANGE - Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

Favorite Local Theatre (Professional)
Winner: Jennie T. Anderson Theatre

The Anderson Theatre is run by Jono Davis, Ethan Everett, and Golbanoo Setayesh. Congratulations to the staff and we look forward to another great year in 2023!
 

Register now for spring sports and activities  

It may be cold outside, but now is the time to register for sports and activities for the spring season. Many sports and activities started registrations in January, including baseball, softball, soccer, track, tennis and BMX. Many of our youth league programs are administered by volunteer organizations, so dates and times of registrations will vary (see bottom of this newsletter for more registration information). For specific information on the activities your child is interested in, see the athletics web page. Here you will find information on youth baseball, softball, soccer, track and BMX. Many registration deadlines are fast approaching - don't be left out!

Adult spring softball, kickball, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball and spikeball registration will open soon. For more information and to download registration packets, see the adult athletics web page. To register, see our registration page.

Cobb athletes fare well in gymnastics meet

The Cobb Challengers hosted the 27th annual Cobb Men’s Challenge gymnastics meet on Sunday, Jan. 15. The event was held at the Cobb Gymnastics Center in Marietta. Ten teams from Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi competed in levels 3 - 10 in the two-session meet.

The Cobb Challenger’s boys’ team had four gymnasts competing at level 4: Jace Carrowy, Colin McCray, Simon Shulha and Rumi Ziyad. The team placed 4th overall with each gymnast finding success on individual pieces of apparatus. Jace tied for 2nd place in Floor Exercise with a 9.1 and 3rd place in High Bar with a score of 8.9. Colin placed 2nd in the vault competition with a score of 9.1. Simon placed 1st in the pommel horse with a score of 10.5, 2nd in the parallel bars with a 9.2 and 4th all-around with a total score of 52.90. Rumi placed 3rd in the vault competition with a score of 8.8.
