87th Annual Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair

As the largest fair in metro Atlanta, the Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair once again returns in 2019 to the Jim R. Miller Park Sept. 19-29. The fair attracts nearly 300,000 people every year from north Georgia and neighboring states. The Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair features live music, free attractions and shows, farm animals, flower shows, blue ribbon competitions, local entertainment, and delicious fair foods. There are also games and rides on the Great James H. Drew Exposition midway – one of the largest carnival midways in the United States, featuring the Wildcat Rollercoaster, Georgia Mountain Lift and the Mega Slide.

A covered arena guarantees concerts rain or shine, including appearances by great country and contemporary Christian artists. Headlining the Carl Black Kennesaw Concert Series this year are: Jeremy Camp on Friday, Sept. 20; Mitchell Tenpenney on Saturday, Sept. 21; Lee Brice (pictured) on Wednesday, Sept. 25; Tyler Farr on Thursday, Sept. 26; Lanco on Friday, Sept. 27; and Caleb Lee Hutchinson (at 7pm) and Travis Denning (at 8pm) on Saturday, Sept. 28. Concerts begin at 8pm (unless noted otherwise). Concerts are free with fair admission.
Drew Exposition, often referred to as America’s Amusement Park on tour, features the North Georgia State Fair Mega Slide - at 50 feet high and rippling out another 170 feet, the yellow and green Mega Slide will be one of the most iconic structures at the fair. New acts in 2019 include K-9's in Flight, Ninja Experience, King BMX Stunt Show and Sandscapes.

Returning acts in 2019 include, Robinson’s Racing Pigs and Paddling Porkers, Lady Houdini, Eudora Farms Petting Zoo, Brian Ruth “Master of the Chainsaw”, North Georgia Animals Petting Barn, Robocars and Treeman and Cowboy Woody! Other long-time traditions will continue, including sanctioned flower shows, non-commercial exhibits, and more than 40 amusement rides and games courtesy of the Great James H. Drew Exposition.

Admission is $7, children 10 and under are free. Ride tickets are $1.25 each, $20 for 21 tickets, $50 for 55 tickets and $100 for 120 tickets. All rides require more than one ticket. Parking is $5. Concerts are free with fair admission. ATM machines are located on the midway. Advanced online prices are $5 for admission and $11 for a book of 21 tickets. Visit the fair website to order advance tickets.
See website for daily specials, including: $15 Pay-One-Price Ride Special on Monday, Sept. 23, $20 Pay-One-Price Ride Specials on Thursday (opening day) Sept. 19, Wednesday, Sept. 25 and Thursday Sept. 26, $25 Pay-One-Price Ride Special on Friday Sept. 20 and Sept. 27, and $30 Pay-One-Price Ride Specials on Saturdays, Sept. 21 and 28 from 11am to 3pm (good till close).

Upcoming Silver Comet Trail Closures

Due to pending bridge repairs/rehabilitation on two of the trail bridges, parts of the trail will be closed to ALL trail traffic between January 6, 2020 and February 28, 2020.

The Silver Comet Trail bridge over Nickajack Creek, located near the Concord Road trail head and trail mile marker 2.5 will be closed for up to 7 days during the dates above.

The Silver Comet Trail bridge over Noses Creek, located near the Carter Road parking lot and trail mile marker 8.4 will be closed for up to 30 days during the dates above. The Wild Horse Trail will remain open with the potential for temporary closures and flagging under the Silver Comet Trail bridge. Parts of the Carter Road parking lot will be closed for construction equipment/supplies.

There will be no access through the construction sites during the closures and no detours will be available. We apologize for any inconveniences but Cobb County’s primary concern is the safety of all trail users.

More specific closure information will be available in November.

Al Bishop Complex Honors Long-time Employee

If you have been to Al Bishop Softball Complex then you probably know Ms. Bev, the sweet lady that works the gate. She truly made those who met her feel welcome and made Al Bishop a more inviting place. She has worked there since 1984, and this past spring season was Beverly Dyer's last season working with us at Cobb PARKS, as she has decided to retire. To commemorate such a wonderful person and employee, we recently unveiled our new 'BEVERLY DYER WALK' street sign at the entrance to the complex (Beverly pictured with our Recreation Manager Derrell Walker). You will see this sign as you come through the complex gates.

Congratulations on your retirement Beverly and thank you for all the years of being a friend to our park and community!
