Participate now! Survey on large research facilities in industrial R&D
The large research facilities operated by the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI enable an advanced analysis of solids, materials, crystals or proteins down to the micro and nanometer range. Here developed methods are often used by the industry in its R&D activities and can significantly improve the innovative capability of a company. To evaluate the current awareness level and the degree of utilization of these methods and to identify ways for companies to access the facilities, PARK INNOVAARE in collaboration with SLS Techno Trans AG is conducting a benchmark study “Advanced Analysis with Large Research Facilities: A Cross-Industrial Perspective”.

Reaching out to industry at i+e fair in Freiburg
PARK INNOVAARE, in collaboration with the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI, presented its services at industry fair i+e in Freiburg (Germany). With over 360 exhibitors and more than 10,000 visitors, the fair showcases companies and their products from electrical and electronics industries, from mechanical engineering as well as the materials and metal industry. This was an outstanding opportunity to demonstrate to all those interested the possible applications of the large research facilities available at the PSI and their industrial potential.

"What we are good at..."

“What are we good at…” is the showcase of PARK INNOVAARE. Our resident companies present their key competencies and share their plans for the future and/or their needs. Today we are featuring Advanced Accelerator Technologies AG, at PARK INNOVAARE since September 2015.

Advanced Accelerator Technologies AG: Accelerator and equipment solutions for industrial and scientific needs

Advanced Accelerator Technologies (AAT) provides innovative accelerator and instrumentation solutions enabling high-tech industrial processes, such as in the semiconductor industry, a large variety of scientific research applications, e.g. in photon and neutron science.

Based on the Paul Scherrer Institute’s comprehensive, globally leading expertise in developing and operating worldwide unique infrastructure of large research facilities, AAT was set up as an industrial joint venture to commercialize PSI know-how by creating and marketing innovative solutions for industrial and scientific customers worldwide. We systematically determine customers’ needs and analyze how we can fulfill their requirements based on PSI technology and on the industrial skills of AAT’s partners. In parallel we develop products/solutions for identified market demand.

Compact accelerators as X-ray sources specially designed for metrology processes in semiconductor industry or as highly brilliant X-ray source for scientific applications are a predominant example for AAT’s offering based on PSI development. Likewise, advanced instrumentation for scientific neutron experiments is another field on our commercialization agenda where PSI also has significant experience.

AAT is very open to discuss and collaborate on any industrial request which may eventually involve accelerator or applied technology solutions. Please contact us if you have a glimpse of an idea!

Practical Innovation Approach for Small and Medium Enterprises

Innovation is not reserved for start-ups and big companies. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have enormous potential but often just need to find the correct approach. Andreas Rülke, an innovation expert with many years of hands-on experience, suggests a four-step practical approach to innovation that can help SMEs to get the most out of their existing resources and to focus on what is really important to achieve the results.

Innovation in Switzerland: SMEs cut R&D budget

This past January, the Swiss Federal Statistic Office (FSO) presented the results of its survey on country’s industrial R&D. Many positive tendencies were identified in the data analysis, such as general growth of R&D expenditures, in particular in pharma and machinery industries, the revival of basic research and constant demand for highly qualified researchers. However, the results are not entirely positive: the data shows that SMEs are tending to cut their R&D budget significantly. Read more about this development.
Corporate Innovation: first two rules of excubation
