Best conditions for innovation: PARK INNOVAARE's new campus

"Transforming cutting-edge research results into marketable innovations needs two things: space for the companies to develop and a functioning innovation ecosystem. The buildings in direct proximity to Paul Scherrer Institute PSI will offer the best conditions for both of these," said Daniel Kündig, CEO PARK INNOVAARE, announcing the filing of the building application for the first stage of PARK INNOVAARE on March 9, 2017. More than 35,000 square meters of state-of-the-art and highly flexible areas for laboratories, clean rooms, workshops and offices will be built by 2020. The building permit is expected for then end of September; work is scheduled to begin in October 2017.

Future made visible: poles show the dimensions of PARK INNOVAARE
No time to waste! As soon as the building application was filed, yesterday’s greenfield land opposite Paul Scherrer Institute PSI Swiss Light Source (SLS) saw some changes: 30-meter high poles now mark the future dimensions of PARK INNOVAARE’s new campus. For more images visit our Facebook page
Do you want to see how the new campus will look like in detail? PARK INNOVAARE’s deliveryLAB is open for all those interested in the building’s model. Also, all architectural plans are displayed in the exhibition. Just drop by!
PARK INNOVAARE: regional economic impact of the fast-growing innovation ecosystem

Within one year, PARK INNOVAARE has developed into a promising element in the innovation system of the Canton of Aargau and Switzerland. Eight high-tech companies have already established or relocated here. The site has proven to be beneficiary for technology development. It has also attracted nearly 4 million Swiss Francs of venture capital and generated a significant number of new jobs. Read more here.
Processes and productivity: often underestimated factors in innovation development

To continue the discussion on innovation and technology management, PARK INNOVAARE hosted the second INNOVATION in PRACTICE workshop, dedicated to “Processes and Productivity”. On Tuesday, March 7, more than 25 industry representatives and researchers from academia shared their views on process innovation. Find out here how it was and register for the next session “Breakthrough Innovation” on April 4.

News from our residents
Pharmaceutical mixtures: Excelsus achieves an unprecedented level of detection

The results of the R&D activities in the chemical, agro-chemical, and pharmaceutical sectors often depend on the correctly identified structure of the analyzed sample. In the field of pharmaceutical powders, X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD) is considered the “gold standard” method for identifying and quantifying crystalline solid forms. Excelsus Structural Solutions AG, one of the high-tech companies based at PARK INNOVAARE, is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the XRPD method. Using the state-of-the-art Swiss Light Source Synchrotron at the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI, the company has pushed the lowest limit of detection down to 0.01 wt%.

"What we are good at..."

“What are we good at…” is the showcase of PARK INNOVAARE. Our resident companies present their key competencies and share their plans for the future and/or their needs. Today we are featuring novoMOF AG, at PARK INNOVAARE since February 2017.

novoMOF: revolutionary nano-sponge materials
novoMOF AG is a technology company in the field of advanced materials with focus on the synthesis and production of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). MOFs are the fastest growing class of materials in chemistry today. These solid powders can be compared to sponges, being able to take up, hold and release molecules in their pores. Furthermore, MOFs exhibit the largest surface areas per gram known to man – one gram of MOF can have a surface area comparable to a FIFA soccer field.

With these unique properties, MOFs offer competitive applications in various industrial sectors, such as energy, consumer goods or Chem-tech. For instance, charging times for batteries can be reduced to minutes, the lifetime of packaged food can be prolonged, or gases can be separated, purified and stored. Found in February 2017, novoMOF has developed an innovative process enabling fast and efficient production of MOFs.
We partner with leaders from different industries who want to exploit MOFs early on as an innovation opportunity. With our unique production technology and our expertise in the field of MOFs, we enable and shape this process early on by providing such companies access to custom MOFs based on their intended application.

Technology as a tool for drug discovery innovation

Pharmaceutical companies must stay innovative throughout the whole development process, from the initial idea to the marketable product.
Dr. Oliver Nayler, Head of Cardiovascular & Fibrosis Biology at Actelion Pharmaceutical Ltd, shares in his interview to PARK INNOVAARE how the leading Swiss biopharmaceutical company uses state-of-the-art technologies to find the best possible solutions.
Innovative ways to innovate

In our highly competitive world, companies need to innovate in order to survive. Easy to say, not that easy to implement. Dr. Markus Anding, co-founder and Managing Director at Excubate Corporate Startups, believes he has found the solution to the corporate innovation challenge. To find out about the “Excubation” approach and how to apply it, read Dr. Anding’s interview and stay tuned for further posts on Excubation.

Register now! Workshop on “Breakthrough Innovation”

With the case example from leadXpro AG

If successful, the combination of new technology and new process results in breakthrough innovation. In this context, it is also not rare for new business models and spin-offs to enter the game. At the third session of INNOVATION in PRACTICE, dedicated to this ultimate discipline of innovation management, we will derive basic principles based on practical examples. The industrial input will be provided by Dr. Rafael Abela, co-founder of leadXpro and former project leader for SwissFEL at the Paul Scherrer Institute.
