Painting with Wool-Needle and
Wet-Felting Fiber Art
With Debbie Degayloo
Debbie Degayloo is a local fiber artist who focuses on creating wonderful works of art with wool felt and a variety of fibers. From amusing and whimsical pieces, to more realistic animal portraits, her work brings a smile to the heart. Debbie creates landscapes that reflect the magic that is the Central Coast, using wool, yarns, Angelina fibers, shells, twigs, and beads. We learned about different fibers and how to use them, while participating in a hands-on session where we all got to try needle felting. What a treat! I don’t know about the rest of the group, but I’ll be ordering a few needle felting supplies. Thank you, Debbie, for such a fun afternoon!
Lynn Douglass was the lucky raffle winner!

Krista Harris Workshop
Exploring Abstract Painting
The MBAA recently had the pleasure of hosting award winning artist and instructor, Krista Harris, for a 3-day abstract painting workshop. The workshop was held at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church in Los Osos, a beautiful and serene setting. Students came from all over the state, and one student came from Oklahoma! It was fascinating to get to know a bit about the artists, as they all shared about their creative journeys. Among them, a retired trauma and hospice nurse who wants his art to make people feel comforted; a former professional chef who used to create art with food and now wants to explore painting; a former public defender who is redirecting her energy into her painting; a psychologist who uses her art as a way to unwind and explore her creative side; a professional working artist; a gallery owner. At the end of the last day, everyone was exhausted and exhilarated, eager to go home and use the skills they learned in this wonderful workshop. We are already talking to Krista about returning next year!

So much goes on behind the scenes, and changes occur seemingly by magic. Truthfully, Art Center Morro Bay is only as successful as the volunteers who manage and operate it. Currently, we have an urgent need for board members and volunteers. Although not everyone is able to give as tirelessly as others, we need your support, now! Many of these positions can be shared or arranged to allow working with a partner.
Here are some of the areas in which we can use your expertise:

Grant Writing (identify sources, work with SPOKES, write grants)
Art in the Park (set-up & tear-down, staff MBAA booth, provide vendor breaks)

Maintenance (light building upkeep)
Please contact me if you would like to become the next Treasurer assistant, Marketing Director, Gallery Director, Docent Director, Adult Education Director or are willing to share responsibilities in any of these positions. Do you love to be around people, work on your computer at home or possess book keeping, social media or database skills? Would you be able to serve on a committee?
