From the President’s Desk Fall in in the air! Why do we only say that about the autumn months? No one says, "Summer is in the air!" I think it's because we sense change. The air feels and smells different in autumn.
MBAA has a few changes in store for you, too. You spoke, we listened! Starting with our January exhibit, For the Birds, it will no longer be a requirement for members to sit the gallery in order to show your work. The new volunteer program will include cash credits and incentives for hours worked and our docents will be a select group of well-trained individuals who love working with the public. You'll have 3 new board members; gallery fees are increasing slightly; and better internet connection is coming. Read on for more information.
Come celebrate the year with us on December 12th at Windows on the Water! The 2016 Holiday Installation Dinner will feature a retrospective of this year's events and accomplishments, volunteer appreciation awards, door prizes, and of course, holiday caroling with Alice's kazoos. Your board has been working hard to make MBAA even better. We hope you'll join us in celebrating YOU!

From the Gallery - Dianne Ravin, Gallery Director
“Pastels USA”, the 30th Annual International Open Exhibition of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, was an exceptionally beautiful selection of pastel paintings, and a beautiful presentation, as well - thanks to our great cast of volunteers who worked tirelessly to put it all together: Park Merrill, Kathleen Van Hyfte, Ann Brown, Sylvia Arnold-Hill, and Armando Nunez.
A Closing Reception took place on October 30, 1 – 3 pm, with an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy a beautiful ambiance created by the SLO Floral Group, providing customized floral arrangements for chosen works of art. The floral arrangements added a special touch of elegance to the day. Thank you to all the members of SLO Floral Group!
Currently, our annual Winter Holiday Faire and Juried Craft Show is on exhibit. This show features works by our Creativity Group in the Main Gallery, including an artfully crafted quilt, donated by member Hallie Wieser, for our annual holiday raffle. Come see the fine art and artful crafts throughout both galleries. There is a treasure-trove of gift selections for our holiday shoppers, including wood-turnings, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, fine art, books and more! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped set up the many displays.
Winter Faire runs through December 22, with take-out scheduled for December 23. The gallery will be closed from December 23 through January 11 for maintenance.
Our next show is For the Birds, in collaboration with the Morro Bay Annual Bird Festival. Start planning your bird-themed art now for submission. Anything bird related is encouraged, so take wing and let your imagination fly free. Take-in is January 10.
And finally... after many years without an increase, gallery fees are rising slightly. Starting January 1, the Artist's commission will be 25% and hanging fees will go from $4 to $5. This allows us to continue to exhibit and sell your work at the best gallery on the Central Coast - Art Center Morro Bay.
Happy holidays from the Gallery!
second monday demo
November's Artist was Marlin Harms.
The November demo was a big success. Applause for Marlin Harms who gave an excellent presentation on nature photography on November 14th. His power point presentation was amazing. Marlin's expertise and skill in capturing the natural world around us is so inspiring, for photographers and artists of every medium. Thank you, Marlin.
Congratulations to Tristen Joy, our lucky raffle winner. Marlin and Tristen are seen here with her prize, a framed original Marlin Harms photo.
NOTE: No demo in December. Join us at Windows on the Water instead.

Joys & Sorrows
Congratulations to Alice Isaac who welcomed a brand newgreat granddaughter into the world and their family. The new bouncing baby is a delight for Alice and Menno.
Farewell to our former member and MBAA President, Ruth McDermott. Ruth recently passed away in Arizona. As an artist, she was dedicated to spreading the joy she found in creating. Her family requests that anyone wishing to remember Ruth donate to MBAA in Ruth's name. We have a Ruth McDermott Scholarship Fund started and we welcome your contributions to continue Ruth's work. Contact Bob Azevedo at (805) 704-0311 for more information.
Adventures on the Big Bus
MBAA made our 3rd (and last) Silver Bay trip to the Big City this year. Silver Bay Tours took us to the 31st annual Contemporary Crafts Market in old Pasadena. We saw some amazing American craftsmanship! The girls of LA are pretty artsy, too.
"So long!" to our trusted driver, Bob. Good luck in your retirement. We'll miss you and the Silver Bay bus!
